Today Zachary got to be my patient in the dentist chair for a coronal polish procedure. I started the day being a bit worried about him coming in just because of the hyper-activity and the inability for him to sit still. Sure enough when he showed up for the appointment he was talkative and walking around everywhere just asking questions about anything. When I finally got him seated in the chair and was about to start working on his teeth he continued to talk my ear off. I finally had to tell him that he wouldn't be able to talk while I was working on his teeth. He did great with this but every time I took my hands out of his mouth it gave him the opportunity to talk again. There was also about four times while I was working on him when he actually sat straight up in the dentist chair to either ask a question or just to talk some more. He definitely wasn't shy to be there at all, which made me happy, but on the other hand it also made it very difficult to work on him too. I was able to successfully finish the procedure on him and passed so overall it was tough but it did give me good practice for what is to come in the dental office.
Before giving Zach the fluoride treatment I told him that he wouldn't be able to eat or drink anything for a half hour after I gave it to him. His response to this was, " I can't eat, but that's what I do."
